Reston families can fill Friday evening and Saturday without spending a dime, thanks to three free events clustered near the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station.
The weekend kicks off Friday, Aug. 7, when R&B band The Tribe takes the stage at Reston Station's Fab Fridays concert series. Music runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza. The weather call is made by 6:30 p.m. each Friday, with updates posted on Reston Station and Reston Community Center social media.
Saturday, Aug. 8, morning belongs to the kids. Rocknoceros, the D.C. area's award-winning children's band, performs at 10 a.m. at Reston Town Square Park, 11900 Market St., as part of the Reston Community Center's Family Fun Entertainment Series. Then Saturday evening, the Summerbration Movies Under the Stars series screens "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" starting at 6:30 p.m. at 1800 Reston Row Plaza. Attendees can unwrap a chocolate bar on-site for a chance to find a Golden Ticket and win a prize.
All three events are free.
Drivers headed to the Reston Station events (Fab Fridays and Movies Under the Stars) get complimentary three-hour validated parking in ParkX garages. Look for staff in yellow Summerbration shirts for validation.
The Reston Community Center organizes both the Family Fun Entertainment Series and Fab Fridays in partnership with Reston Town Center Association, Reston Station, MSE Productions and Shenandoah Conservatory, according to RCC's Instagram announcement on Aug. 3.
Rocknoceros has appeared at Reston Town Square Park in prior summers, including July 2025 and July 2023, making the show a recurring favorite for local families, according to RCC's event listing.

The free series continues the following weekend. Hourglass, a James Taylor tribute band, plays Fab Fridays on Friday, Aug. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza. On Saturday, Aug. 15, Movies Under the Stars screens "The Secret Life of Pets" at 6:30 p.m. at 1800 Reston Row Plaza. The Summerbration schedule runs Saturdays through Aug. 29 and Fridays through Sept. 4.
