South Lakes volleyball has dropped seven straight matches after opening the season with a win, falling to 1-7 through eight matches.
The Seahawks' lone victory was a 3-0 sweep of Highland on Sept. 2. Every match since has been a loss, according to MaxPreps.
South Lakes fell to Washington-Liberty 2-3 on Sept. 9, then lost to James Madison 0-3 on Sept. 14 and Centreville 1-3 on Sept. 16. Oakton swept the Seahawks 0-3 on Sept. 22, Chantilly did the same 0-3 on Sept. 24 and Westfield followed with a 0-3 result on Sept. 28. South Lakes lost to Fairfax 1-3 on Oct. 1.
The Sept. 24 loss to Chantilly came against a team that stood at 9-2 overall and 4-1 in district play as of Oct. 2, according to the Fairfax Times. Freshman setter Sofia Harris leads the Chargers with 272 assists this season. Head coach Daniel Molina told the Fairfax Times that Harris "has grasped quickly how we perform."
South Lakes took sets in two of its seven losses, pushing Washington-Liberty to five sets on Sept. 9 and winning a set against both Centreville and Fairfax. The Seahawks were swept 0-3 in their other four defeats.
The district schedule continues through Oct. 22. VHSL region play begins Oct. 31, with quarterfinals Nov. 14, semifinals Nov. 17 and Class 4/5/6 state finals Nov. 21 at Virginia State University.
