Reston-area families can meet local officers up close Friday evening at Big Truck Night, part of the 76th annual Fairfax County 4-H Fair at Frying Pan Farm Park.

The Fairfax County Police Department's Reston District Station is hosting the event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, at 2709 West Ox Road in Herndon. Families can see police vehicles up close and meet officers in a casual setting. Parking costs $10 per vehicle during the fair weekend, according to FFXnow.

National Night Out returns county-wide on Tuesday, Aug. 4, across all Fairfax County police districts. The FCPD's community events blog lists the event as an all-day affair but does not specify a Reston-area location for 2026.

No Reston venue has been announced.

Last year, the Reston District Station partnered with the Reston Community Center and the Hunters Woods Neighborhood Coalition to hold National Night Out at Hunters Woods. Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill) spoke at that Aug. 5, 2025, gathering, saying the goal was "to bring the whole community together" with law enforcement and local organizations.

MPO Derek Brown, the Reston District's crime prevention officer, and MPO Jenette Post, the community outreach officer, were among the officers at the 2025 event.
