Big Greek Cafe plans to open at Reston's North Point Village Center by late 2026 or early 2027, filling a storefront that California Tortilla left empty in spring 2025.

The Maryland-based chain will take over about 2,000 square feet at 1470 North Point Village Center, according to Nikos Kontos, the restaurant's director of operations, as FFXnow reported. The Burn first reported the planned location on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The Reston spot will be Big Greek Cafe's first brand-new outpost in Virginia. The chain's four other Virginia locations, in Oakton, Alexandria, Sterling and Leesburg, are former SouvlakiBar restaurants rebranded after a late 2024 merger.

"We hope to be open at the end of the year, but if not, it will be early 2027," Kontos told FFXnow.

Kontos said the shopping center's heavy foot traffic sold them on the site.

"It's heavily visited. There's a lot of other stores there that bring and draw people in to the center, and we feel like it's in a good location," he said.

Kontos co-founded the chain with his twin brother Simos in Silver Spring in 2009. Big Greek Cafe now operates 16 locations: 12 in Maryland and four in Northern Virginia.

The restaurant's menu centers on pita sandwiches, including a signature gyro, along with grilled pork and lamb chops, spanakopita, moussaka, pastichio, rice bowls and salads. Kontos described the goal as "big food [in] big portions at a reasonable price."

Big Greek Cafe submitted an application for an occupancy certificate to Fairfax County the week of Tuesday, Sept. 15, according to FFXnow. Kontos did not name a specific grand opening date beyond the late 2026 or early 2027 window.

North Point Village Center, a Giant-anchored plaza off Reston Parkway, has added several food tenants since early 2025. Call Your Mother and Empanadas de Mendoza both opened that year, and Robeks is listed as coming soon on the center's website. The Greek restaurant will join existing tenants including Chick-fil-A, Glory Days Grill, Matsutake Sushi and Gregorio's Trattoria.
