Autumnwood Main Pool shut down at noon Sunday after the Reston Association detected water contamination. The association directed swimmers to two nearby alternatives for the rest of the day.
The Reston Association posted a pool alert at 1:07 p.m. confirming the main pool would remain closed through the evening. The wading pool and pool deck stayed open briefly but closed at 1 p.m.
The association did not specify what type of contamination triggered the closure or provide a timeline for reopening.
Where to swim instead
The Reston Association pointed residents to two nearby pools:
- North Hills Pool, 1325 North Village Road, open until 7 p.m.
- Lake Newport Pool, 11601 Lake Newport Road, open until 8 p.m.

Second water alert active
The pool closure comes as the association is also managing a separate water-quality issue at Lake Anne. On Tuesday, RA's watershed team discovered a small bloom of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) floating on the lake's surface during routine weekly monitoring.
Stand-up paddleboard rentals at Lake Anne have been suspended, and residents are advised to avoid contact with the water and rinse off immediately if they or a pet touch it. Boating and fishing remain permitted.
