South Lakes shut out Herndon 48-0 on Friday, Oct. 2, reclaiming the Baron Cameron Cup in the 29-year-old rivalry between the two schools.

The Seahawks improved to 5-0. Herndon fell to 0-5.

South Lakes piled up 542 total yards, scored eight touchdowns and never punted. The defense held Herndon to 31 total yards, forced three interceptions and allowed just six first downs, four of which came on Seahawk penalties.

Josh Dagbe led all receivers with seven catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns, a 44-yard score from quarterback Christian Wyatt and a 63-yard catch from sophomore backup Gavin Satterfield. Nick Picarelli added six catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns, one on a 5-yard jet sweep and another on a 20-yard pass from Wyatt.

James Smith became the first Seahawk to rush for 100 yards this season, carrying 16 times for 105 yards. Senior Sean Ventura scored his first career touchdown on a 3-yard run and finished with nine carries for 59 yards. Sophomore Bode Scullion also scored his first career touchdown, a 6-yard catch from Satterfield.

Wyatt scored on a 27-yard run, and Satterfield led three second-half touchdown drives as head coach Jason Hescock emptied the bench.

Herndon's offense managed minus-10 rushing yards on 20 carries and completed just 8 of 19 passes for 41 yards. The Hornets punted seven times, five on three-and-outs. Herndon cycled through three quarterbacks before the first quarter ended. Cameron Soto, named player of the game by MaxPreps, intercepted a pass to end Herndon's only realistic scoring threat at the South Lakes 32.

Penalties were the lone blemish. South Lakes committed 10 for 95 yards, erasing two touchdowns and more than 100 yards in gains.

The rivalry series now stands at Herndon 15, South Lakes 14. Last year, a Herndon squad that entered 0-4 upset the then-4-1 Seahawks 23-20 on a last-second 50-yard field goal by Ryan Quick. On Friday, Quick's younger brother Dylan, Herndon's punter, ran out of the end zone for a safety.
