Fairfax County police are asking the public to help find a 17-year-old girl last seen near Hunters Woods Plaza in Reston on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Virginia State Police issued a CODI Alert on Sunday, Aug. 30, for Jasmin Ismary Garcia after investigators determined her disappearance poses a credible threat to her health and safety. The alert was issued on behalf of the Fairfax County Police Department, Patch reported.

Garcia was last seen in the 2300 block of Hunters Woods Plaza, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The statewide alert went out 13 days after Garcia was last seen. No official explanation for the gap has been released.

Who to look for

Garcia is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 170 pounds. She has red hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a dark blue sports bra, gray shorts and white tennis shoes.

What is a CODI Alert?

CODI stands for Critical Operation for a Disappeared Child. Virginia State Police use the program to notify the public about missing or endangered children whose cases do not meet the criteria for an AMBER Alert.

The program covers any person 17 or younger whose disappearance is under suspicious circumstances or poses a credible threat to their health and safety, according to the VSP website.
