ArtsFairfax will honor four local arts champions at its annual awards ceremony Oct. 30 at the Hyatt Regency Reston.

The nonprofit Fairfax County arts agency plans to recognize Bruce Berlage, Karen and Jim Cleveland, Thomas Beveridge and the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation at the luncheon, according to ArtsFairfax. The event runs from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1800 Presidents Street. Organizers expect more than 400 business professionals, elected officials and community leaders to attend.

Reston Community Center is the event's top-tier "Visionary Sponsor." BeBe Nguyen, executive director of the Reston Community Center, said the center "is honored to support this celebration and to help ensure that the arts remain accessible, vibrant, and deeply connected to community life."

The Reston Town Center Association and BXP are reception sponsors. McGuireWoods and the Tim and Barbara Rizer Charitable Foundation are lead sponsors. Proceeds support ArtsFairfax programs offered at no cost to local artists and arts organizations across the county, including $820,000 in annual grants to more than 60 arts nonprofits.

ArtsFairfax board member Peggy Fox, a four-time TV news Emmy winner, will emcee the ceremony. Local artist Barbara Januszkiewicz, known for abstract color-field paintings and plexiglass sculptures, created the commissioned awards.

Two musical groups will perform.

Members of the New Dominion Chorale will sing an abridged version of the fourth movement from Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem, accompanied by Frank Conlon. The performance honors Beveridge, who founded the 140-member McLean-based chorale in 1991 and served as its artistic director for 35 years. The group operates as a non-audition singers' cooperative, with a board made up entirely of current members. Dr. Casey Cook now leads the chorale.

The Woodbridge Flute Choir, celebrating its 30th anniversary, will play "Cassis Orange" and "China Blue" from Satoshi Yagisawa's Cocktail Paradise! The ensemble features Karen Edwards and Tara Nadel on C flute, Ginger Melby on alto flute and Jim Waterman on bass flute. The 30-member group has performed at the Kennedy Center and the White House. Debbie Gilbert marks 20 years as its artistic director.

ArtsFairfax describes the Fairfax County arts sector as a $300 million industry. The agency distributes grants and offers professional development to artists and arts organizations serving 1.2 million residents across Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax and the City of Falls Church.
