Reston residents can drop into a free outdoor Tai Chi class at Hunters Woods Plaza every Saturday morning until August.
Reston Community Center fitness instructor Qijing Yue leads the 45-minute sessions from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. at the plaza, 2310 Colts Neck Rd. The format is drop-in, meaning residents can show up any Saturday without catching up on previous weeks and without having to sign up.
Yue has taught Tai Chi since 1997 and brings more than four decades of martial arts experience. She has represented the United States in national and international Tai Chi competitions and holds certifications as a Health Qigong instructor and Registered Yoga Teacher. Her students have ranged in age from 10 to 90, according to the RCC announcement published Tuesday.
Each session begins with a gentle warm-up, then moves into guided Tai Chi movements focused on balance, coordination and calming the mind.
"Combining the mindfulness of Tai Chi with natural outdoor light and fresh air helps you have a peaceful mind and better sleep at night," Yue said in the RCC blog post.
The class is open to all ages. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and supportive shoes. If it rains, the session moves indoors to RCC Hunters Woods at the same address.
No registration or fees are required.
