Fairfax Connector buses will run on a Sunday schedule Monday, Sept. 7, for the Labor Day holiday.

The reduced schedule affects all routes across the system, including the five Reston Internal Bus System (RIBS) lines. RIBS 1 through RIBS 5 will operate, but on Sunday timing. Routes not on the county's operating list will not run at all.

Only 39 of the system's 91 routes will operate that day. The full list, according to the county's service notice:

101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.

That means more than half the system's routes will be suspended for the day. Riders who depend on a route not on that list will need to find another way to get around.

The county's notice does not list specific departure times under the Sunday schedule. Riders should check individual route timetables on the Fairfax Connector website before heading to a stop.

Sunday service generally means fewer trips and wider gaps between buses than a normal weekday. For RIBS riders connecting to Metro at Wiehle-Reston East, that could mean longer waits at the station.

Both Fairfax Connector transit stores in the Reston area will be closed Sept. 7. The Reston Town Center Transit Station store and the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station store are among six county locations shutting down for the holiday, according to the Fairfax Times. The Connector Customer Service Call Center will also be closed.

Riders who need to load SmarTrip cards or handle other in-person business should plan to visit a transit store before or after the holiday.

Fairfax Connector posted the schedule change on X on Aug. 31. Fairfax County Government shared the announcement the same day. The system carries about 30,000 passengers daily across its 91 routes.
