A man who struck a pedestrian on Reston Parkway more than a decade ago and then fled the country has finally been apprehended.
43-year-old Enda Browne of Herndon was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service at Washington Dulles International Airport on Friday, June 26, after returning to the United States, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. He faces a felony hit-and-run charge stemming from a 2014 crash at the intersection of Reston Parkway and Spectrum Center Drive, near Reston Town Center.
What happened in 2014
On a Sunday evening at approximately 6:29 p.m., Browne was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion southbound on Reston Parkway when he struck a woman crossing at Spectrum Center Drive, police said. He fled the scene.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she was able to receive life-saving treatment.
Detectives with the department's Crash Reconstruction Unit located Browne and the vehicle after the crash. He was arrested, charged with felony hit and run and released pending trial.
More than a decade as a fugitive
Browne was due in court on Monday, June 8, 2015. He never showed.
Investigators later learned he had left the country. A warrant for his arrest remained outstanding for over a decade until federal authorities notified FCPD detectives that Browne had been detained at Dulles upon his arrival back in the U.S. Police have not disclosed where Browne spent the intervening years.
He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Under Virginia law, a felony hit-and-run where a person is injured carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.
What's next
No court date for Browne's 2026 proceedings has been publicly announced. The FCPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the original crash and coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service on the arrest.
