A Fairfax County soccer coach faces 26 criminal charges after police say he scammed 13 families out of nearly $60,000 by promising a summer travel camp in Italy that never existed.
Ahmed Mohamed, 31, of Fairfax, was charged with 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud, the Fairfax County Police Department announced Monday. Detectives say Mohamed used his job at the Alexandria Soccer Association to target some of his victims, collecting between $2,000 and $12,000 from each family.
Mohamed created a fictitious program called "Sporting Soccer Academy" in December 2025 and advertised a youth travel camp in Italy, according to the FCPD. He collected payments under false promises of travel arrangements, camp activities and lodging.
The investigation began after detectives received a report on June 25 through the department's Financial Crimes Online Reporting system. They identified 13 victims and estimated total losses at nearly $60,000.
Mohamed was arrested on June 30, in the 4100 block of Monument Court in Fair Oaks. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, charged, and later released on his own recognizance.
No court date has been announced.
