Reston residents can meet local police officers over coffee Wednesday, Aug. 26, and learn active shooter survival strategies Thursday, Aug. 27, in two free events hosted by the Fairfax County Police Department's Reston District Station.
The Coffee with a Cop session runs 9 to 11 a.m. at the Target store, 12197 Sunset Hills Rd. The informal meetups give residents a chance to talk with officers outside of emergency calls. FCPD has held similar sessions at locations across Reston throughout the summer, including Hunters Woods Plaza and the North Point Village Center Chick-fil-A in July.
The following evening, the department is offering a free Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events training from 6 to 7 p.m. at 1801 Cameron Glen Dr. The one-hour CRASE session teaches civilians how to respond during an active shooter incident.
Both events are free.
FCPD announced the schedule in its weekly community events blog published Thursday, Aug. 20. The department promoted the blog on X, noting it covers "the last weekend before school starts."
It is unclear whether the CRASE training requires advance registration or accepts walk-ins. The FCPD blog does not list a sign-up link for the Reston session.
Residents can subscribe to Reston District Station updates at fairfaxcounty.gov/mailinglist by selecting their preferred district under Public Safety. The non-emergency police line is 703-691-2131.
